Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa – Secluded Atop Maldives’s Deepest Atoll – Is The Real Maldives Preserved

Sitting on the pristine and natural Huvadhoo – Maldive’s deepest natural Atoll – and encircled by an award-winning house reef, the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa offers an authentic escape immersed in nature.

Coming into its fifteenth year of service, the property was one of the first to champion marine and island conservation – the natural beauty, fragility and diversity of Huvadhoo. With a focus on exceptional and personalised service, the property is now known as a refined getaway with immersive experiences perfect for loyal returning guests as well as new groups of travellers frequenting the archipelago.

Seclusion & Thoughtful Design

Park Hyatt Hadahaa is truly secluded – the journey entails a 50 minute domestic transfer and 25 minute boat ride to reach the preserved paradise. Once guests arrive, they feel total seclusion, relaxation and space from the rest of the world. The founders wanted everyone to experience this true sense of adventure which they first felt visiting the atoll as children and to preserve this special place for generations to come.

Nestled in lush flora 55km from the equator, the property was designed to embrace the unique nature of the island. From concept to construction, the surrounding nature has been respected and used only as a source of inspiration. When building the resort, the team worked around the island’s trees and water’s coral reef using jetties to move materials rather than digging channels – there was no heavy construction and keeping the reef protected was paramount. Now, the resort continues to be certified by Ecoluxury, EarthCheck and Green Globe.

The property features 51 beach and overwater villas – 36 on land and 14 water villas –  including an expansive award-winning three-bedroom over-water residence, Kiaali Residence (Virtuoso Certified). All were designed by Paris design studio – Atelier Donatien Carratier – with some nestled within the island’s tropical greenery, others elevated over the water, many featuring a private plunge pool, but all with direct access to the house reef – a touchpoint with nature at every turn.

In the villas, natural light, understated earth tones and pale fabrics exude the elegance of simplicity – a nod to Park Hyatt’s world recognised quiet thoughtful luxury with added focus on intimacy and tranquility. Interior design reinforces the existing native foliage of the island – for example, local flowers are collected to create arrangements for rooms and a strict list of local flora and fauna is protected, so that no alien species can disturb the fragile ecosystem. Inspired by the surrounding lagoon, the interior is further adorned in soothing greens and blues, blending modern elegance with tropical accents. Materials such as marble and stone and patterns inspired by the waves of the sea capture the timeless quality of nature.

Maldivian style and local indigenous form also feature in the design – local craftsmen created on-of-a-kind pieces for the property, including the majestic Dhoani Learning Centre, which is proudly visible from arrival. An upside down wooden boat structure, dhoani translates directly to boat. Local boat builders from the nearby Raa Atoll were commissioned and worked without blue prints to ensure the building was totally authentic. Other traditional touches include the patterns on the door knobs inspired by fantastical coral carvings, old mosques and grave stone markings and other little touches that inspire stories of culture and heritage.

One of the top 3 House Reefs in the Maldives

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa kept the 360 degree reef around the island untouched during its original build, maintaining its commitment to protecting the region’s biodiversity. Now the reef is award-winning, with some of the healthiest coral gardens in the Archipelago – teeming with life and the number one highlight for guests.

Azrin, the resort’s new Resident Marine Biologist said: “Seeing is believing when you visit Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa – it is hard to describe without witnessing the beauty firsthand – but vs the rest of the Maldives: the water is bluer, the sands are softer and whiter, the reef is boldly colorful! We are one of the rare resorts, which does not bring in artificial sand or create sand banks, all the sand is totally natural – it is actually the waste of parrot fish, which makes its texture so soft!

I am delighted to be joining on site as the head Marine Biologist to explore the depths with guests and help educate them on how we can continue to protect the islands. I am also very proud to be representing women in the marine space and leading the charge – I hope I inspire more girls into the profession.”

Explore Maldive’s Deepest Atoll

Huvadhoo is Maldive’s deepest atoll. Situated in the south, the atoll features more varied islands than the overpopulated north, including a collection of uninhabited islands – some with mangroves, others with seagrass, and some which share lagoons, so guests can walk from one to another.

Venturing into the water, there are 42 world-class dive sites within a 45 minute boat ride. Its secludedness ensures a more exclusive and captivating diving and snorkelling excursion to remote sites; an underwater sanctuary away from other busier diving locations. Guests can expect a daily spectacle of the most varied coral species in the Maldives, turtles, schools of fish and reef sharks, dolphins and sometimes even whale sharks. Day trips are also available with the resort’s in-house Blue Journeys Dive and Activity Centre, to the southern island of Fuvahmulah – a World-famous dive site to get close to the famed tiger sharks.

The Dhoani Learning Center

The Dhoani Learning Center offers a space for guests, children and the local community alike to learn about marine life preservation and sustainable practices. From protecting the house reef to engaging in meaningful environmental initiatives, the resort ensures every guest contributes to the preservation of this fragile paradise.

Weekly activities guests can participate in include ‘Reef Talks’ from the in house marine biologists carried out twice a week and beach combs looking for disruptive plant and animal species such as the corallivorous of Thorns sea star and the Drupella sea snail.

Enriching moments – Land & Sea

Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa offers special experiences which cater to all manner of tastes and occasions. For the adventurous, the Equatorial Expedition, for example, is a bucket list must where guests cross the earth’s centerline or a ‘survival experience’ on a remote island practicing Maldivian fishing methods to hunt and gather (with no digital devices); for the romantics, guests can enjoy a private island to oneself for a private picnic or stargazing, sunset cruises catching glimpses of dolphins at dusk; for wellness seekers a vast array of sound healing, yoga and SUP boarding is on offer and for water babies; they can choose from turtle guided tours, dolphin tours or shark observation dives.

The spa offers a retreat with five couples spa treatment villas offering curated Maldivian-inspired therapies and traditional Maldivian medicine made from local plants.
