Most Sicily itineraries point you straight to Taormina. And while it’s beautiful, it’s not where we’d stay again. The smarter move? Giardini Naxos.
Where to Stay (and Why It Matters)
Giardini Naxos gives you everything Taormina doesn’t: beach access, better value, more space, and a more authentic, relaxed feel. You can walk to the beach, eat locally, and still reach Taormina in 10 to 15 minutes.
The Taormina Strategy
Taormina is still worth visiting. Go early or late, wander Corso Umberto, take in the views from Piazza IX Aprile, and visit the Greek Theatre. Then leave before it becomes overcrowded. It’s a place to experience, not base yourself.
What’s Worth It
Isola Bella for swimming and snorkelling, a beach day in Naxos, and exploring local restaurants and slower evenings. Sicily works best when you don’t rush it.
What to Add to Your Trip
Consider Cefalù for a perfect coastal day trip, Ortigia for history and atmosphere, and Palermo for food and culture. Each offers something different, but Naxos keeps your base simple.
